Celebration 2012

Framingham church seniors pose nude in 2012 calendar | MetroWest Daily News
The calendar is on sale for $15 to raise funds for the [First Parish Church in Framingham MA]'s Celebrating Men initiative that kicks off this September and runs through October.
After Sept. 1, "Celebration 2012'' may be purchased online at www.fpfcalendar.com, by calling 508-872-3111 or at Damianos' Fountain Street studio on the fourth floor, east 508-872-4880.
You can also get it here. And all you MetroWest reader responders who think it's the height of wit to hope they wiped down the pews after the cover was shot: God knows where you live.

And I don't know why the Huffington Post has this story flagged as "satire", the calendar is quite real.

Davallament youth group

Guardian | Naked passion of Christ calendar shocks Mallorcan CatholicsA Catholic youth group has shocked its religious superiors in Mallorca by producing a calendar that features a nude version of the passion of Christ.
The wrath of the bishop of Mallorca has fallen on the Davallament youth group from the Spanish island's town of Sant Joan after they decided to make the stripped-down version of the Easter week story to raise funds.

Bare Because We Care

Bare Because We Care
Springs Rotaract Club is a Community-based Youth Volunteer organisation which serves the needs of various people within our immediate community and around the country. In order to meet these demands we hold several fundraisers throughout the year and also try to increase awareness of what Rotaract is about.
A good name can be used more than once, especially if it's true. I can't find any reports of how well the calendar did.

Dare to Bare Because We Care

Telegraph | Namibian Women "Dare to Bare Because We Care" for Animal Welfare
Desperate to raise funds for the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), 12 mostly middle-aged Namibian pet lovers bared it all with furry models from an animal shelter -- though most of these animals were since lucky enough to be adopted.
What started as a joke, with an ambitious print run of 2,000 copies at 300 Namibian dollars each (40 US dollars, 28 euros), became a money-maker in the Christmas shopping fever.
And another [Dare to] Bare Because We Care. As of mid-2010 they still had some left and had dropped the price to 100 dollars Namibian. I'm sure they're all gone by now, so I'm hoping for a happy ending. See also Facebook and the Windhoek SPCA.

Whitby Bin Men

Whitby Gazette | Naked binmen raise £2,000 for good cause
The 12 workers from Scarborough Borough Council’s waste and recycling departments stripped off last year with just pieces of recyling equipment hiding their modesty.
...The cheque for £2033.60 was handed over to the two charities that will benefit from the money – Yorkshire Air Ambulance and Help for Heroes.
I'm not finding any hint that the calendars were ever available via mail or web order, only from local merchants. But read more at Forces Pen Pals, Scarborough Council and Real Whitby Magazine. Or just search for "Whitby Ben Men calendar". And congratulations to all involved!

Calendar Girls: the Stage Play in New Zealand

Calendar Girls: Being naked on stage, but very tasteful | The National Business Review
It is a delightful and entertaining piece of theatre. It has heart, lots of genuine emotion and true sentimentality. The success of the show is due largely to the enthusiastic performances of the six female leads.
...The play manages to provide something between voyeurism and titillation, never giving offence, presenting the naked women in the best of all possible taste. This is a show for the prudish as well as the broadminded – maybe not too prudish, though.
Well, it is about women getting naked, after all. It's not like you didn't know what you were getting when you bought the ticket.

See another review in Auckland Now and the advance stories in the Star-Times and Auckland Now. And if you're in New Zealand, why not go?

The car wash that wasn't

Hunky calendar boys banned from Epsom insist they are real firemen (From Your Local Guardian)
First the Fire Brigade's poster boys were banned from doing a charity car wash, then questions were asked about whether they were even real firefighters.
To add insult to injury, the people appearing to question their bona-fides were fellow fire fighters from Epsom fire station.
There's no mention of the calendar itself, which I suppose is either too late (for 2011) or too early (for 2012). But I'm guessing that when it's available, it'll be mentioned at the Fire Fighters Charity page.

Saanich Firefighters

Victoria Times Colonist | Behind the scenes at the firefighters' calendarFunds from sales of the calendar will go toward the Saanich Fire Charitable Foundation, which raised more than $100,000 for local charities last year through various events. The events included community runs to help burn victims, building a Little League clubhouse and an NHL old-timers hockey game which raised one of the biggest single donations to the Mustard Seed food bank yet.
They've done calendars previously, in 2010, 2009 and 2006: The photo is from the 2009 calendar. When 2010 goes on sale, it should be available here.

It gives me a warm feeling to see any organization continue the tradition over multiple years. It means everyone involved is having fun.

Au Naturel, Too

Calendar for a cause - Country Messenger
The 18-month calendar showcases many of the well-known Scandia and Marine on St. Croix [MN] residents posing nearly-nude behind the items of their trade.

Professional photographer Verna Pitts and her business partner, graphic artist Jeni O'Brien, masterminded the project. The two were inspired by the movie "Calendar Girls," in which members of a ladies' social club pose nude for a fundraiser calendar.

As the "Too" in the name suggestions, the 2011-2012 calendar is the second of its kind. Pitts and O'Brien produced the first calendar in 2006, which also featured residents of Scandia and Marine nearly-nude, to raise funds for Jenna Lynn, a teen from Scandia who was battling a rare form of bone cancer. Jenna died in 2008 at 18.

Jenna's parents, Jeff and Jan Lynn, posed for the latest edition of the calendar. Jan said the original calendar helped pay for cancer treatments and improved the quality of life for her daughter. With a second calendar in the works, the two said they were honored to be on its pages as a way to give back to those who had given to them.

"We needed to be in there for somebody else," Jan Lynn said. "It's for a good cause and it brings the two communities together."
Now, six years after the first calendar, the towns again came together to create a calendar, this time for Toni Poletes, an owner of Ostlund's Marine Garage. Poletes, 52, has metastatic breast cancer and is struggling to pay medical bills after her insurance notified her she maxed out her coverage in March.

New Bern NC

Women, 70 and up, pose nude for charity - WCTI New Bern
The first calendar came out in 2008, this is the second installment.
"That was going to be the one and only one we did. Well here I sit. Got talked into doing it again and we just had the best time," Fawcett said.
Profits from the $15 calendars will go to two local charities: M.E.R.C.I. Clinic and Religious Community Services.
I haven't found a way to order it.

Can't we all just get along... naked?

Well, this was unexpected.

The amateur rights for the [stage] play, based on the true story of members of Rylstone and District Women's Institute in Yorkshire stripping off for a charity calendar, are being released for the first time for 12 months from 1 September next year. The producers hope to establish a Guinness World Record for the most productions of one play in a year, with a percentage of the royalties going to Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research.

But the limited window – combined with unprecedented demand – is frustrating drama groups. Mr Pugh has received angry telephone calls from some "very forthright" amateur dramatics societies complaining that other local groups are also planning to stage the play. In some cases, they are "fighting over" the same theatre or church hall.
Now, if every group who wanted to produce this play just ignored the others and went ahead and did it, I could foresee a number of things happening.
  • A world record well and truly shattered
  • Massive amounts of money for leukemia research, surely not a bad thing
  • An unprecedented amount of female nudity (of, ahem, more mature nature than average)
  • Saturation of the market?
Really? That's what they're afraid of? Too many naked old ladies? And they can say that with a straight face?

Dr. Showmore

In celebration of the 250 year history of the profession of veterinary medicine, The Center for Integrative Veterinary Care [Hopkinton, MA] has produced an educational calendar for 2011 called Dr. ShowMore. Each month depicts a different modality or procedure. The proceeds will support student scholarships and the filming of Dr.DoMore. The calendar is done in the theme of the Movie "Calendar Girls" and both animals and humans are "au natural."
$10. Buy it here.
