The calendar was made to benefit the Benevolent Care Fund, which provides funding for community members who outlive their financial resources but who want to remain at Ashby Ponds.

Fort McMurray Firefighters

Firefighters take off shirts for a cause - Fort McMurray Today
The 2012 Fort McMurray firefighters' calendar is almost hot off the press, and goes on sale Nov. 17, the date of the hotly anticipated annual signing night at Paddy McSwiggins.
After posing for the good cause, the 12 pin-up firefighters will be on hand to sign the fundraising calendars and "put their comments down, take phone numbers ...," laughed Fort McMurray firefighter/EMT Adam Bugden.
About halfway through the night, the lads will be auctioning off the shirts they're wearing for the signing. This year, 2,500 copies of the calendar are being sold for $20 each. The signing event gets underway at 9 p.m. Admission is a minimum $5 donation at the door.
Money raised from this event and other fundraising endeavours are earmarked for local charities such as the Fort McMurray Boys and Girls Club, Centre of Hope, Santa's Anonymous, Unity House and the Fort McMurray Food Bank.
This isn't their first: There's a Facebook page for a previous year. Wish I could offer you a place to order it from: If there ever is a way, I expect they'll mention it here. Auctioning off their shirts is a great touch.

Garrison Girls

Servicemen's wives pose nude for charity calendar (From Dorset Echo)
THE intrepid wives of soldiers, sailors and airmen have again posed in the nude for an underwater-themed 2012 charity calendar.
Garrison Girls, set up by a Dorset woman, is trying to raise £5million for a retreat to help service men and women with post traumatic stress disorder.
Available online from The Forces Store (direct link to calendar) or from Garrison Girls.

Wait, it says "have again posed"? That's correct, this isn't the first time.

I wish I'd been organized enough to feature this calendar on Veterans' Day.

Pin Up for Heroes

Military wives and girlfriends strip off for charity calendar for injured servicemen | Mail Online
While their husbands and boyfriends are away fighting, a group of army WAGs have found their own inventive way to do their bit.
Fifteen women, mostly the wives and girlfriends of men in the armed forces, are posing as 1950s-style pin-up girls for a charity calendar to raise money for injured troops.
More than 300 women volunteered to be photographed for the calendar, most of which was shot at the Help For Heroes recovery centre for injured service personnel at Tedworth House in Wiltshire.
Here's their Facebook page, which includes a link for ordering. I wish I'd been organized enough to feature this calendar on Veterans' Day. This is at least the third Help for Heroes calendar. See also This Is South Wales.

Humane Hunnies

Calendar to benefit Humane Society | Daily Reflector
Set Salon owner, Susan Chesson, left, and Moxie Promotions Kelly Boutilier, right, talk about their recent success with a charitable, pin-up style calender called the Humane Hunnies, whose proceeds support the efforts of the Humane Society of Eastern Carolina.
This Daily Reflector article is behind a paywall (because that's working so well for every newspaper that has tried it, I guess), and the calendar doesn't have its own website. It does, however, have a Facebook page which says what it costs but not where to get one. They haven't even posted a picture of the cover. Ahhh, there's a FundRazr link in there, buried at the very bottom of the page--which is to say, in the first post on the wall and not since.

I don't mean to be critical, ladies, I'm sure you're doing good work, but it could be easier to get information about this project. That darned FundRazr link should be reposted at least once a week, if not placed on your Info page permanently.

A GROUP of bartenders from York will be throwing caution – and their clothes – to the wind when they go naked for a charity calendar to raise awareness of The Press's river safety campaign.

“After the first five minutes of awkwardness, soon everything was on display and the hilarity began,” he said.

BBC News - Why do we still buy calendars?

BBC News - Why do we still buy calendars?

The continued level of interest in this most analogue of devices is all the more remarkable given that it has, at least in theory, been superseded by technology. Now smartphones come equipped with personal diary planners and online calendars are available to all.
But wander through any shopping centre and it quickly becomes apparent that the traditional version remains popular.
...The genre continues to evolve. Since the ladies of Rylstone Women's Institute posed naked to raise money for leukaemia research - a venture immortalised in the 2003 film Calendar Girls - the charity sector has witnessed an explosion of similar nude collaborations.
Well, thanks for mentioning it.

Let's see here. We could get a smallish flat screen dedicated monitor and mount it on the kitchen wall near the refrigerator (I'm not brave enough to try to hang it on the fridge door). Define it as a secondary display to the nearest computer and show a browser window of Google Calendar. Update it with a nearby wireless keyboard. Download your favorite images from the Hubble and use them as wallpaper. The technology is up to it.

But is that really more efficient than a whiteboard and dry-erase marker? Or, if you're on a budget, a paper calendar and a 39 cent pen?

To a man with a hammer, the world looks like a nail. I love my computer, but I still have a calendar next to the back door.

Bare(ly) Fishing

Fisherman’s friends come together for naked charity calendar - Hunts PostA GROUP of fishermen friends have braved chilly waters, strange looks and plenty of ‘tackle’ and ‘rod’ innuendoes to strip off for a Huntingdon charity.
The group of nine anglers dispensed of their waterproofs and wellies, but kept their fishing lines close at hand for the ‘Calendar Girls’-inspired naked calendar in aid of Huntingdon MS Therapy Centre and the East Anglian Air Ambulance.
I'm seeing no way to purchase the calendar other than in person at the MS Therapy Centre.

Irish Farmers

Back by popular demand Ireland’s naked Farmers Calendar | IrishCentralOnce again Irish farmers have shed their clothes in the name of charity and good fun for the Irish Farmers 2012 Calendar, 100% Beef. Already the calendar is selling like hot-cakes (or dare I say beef-cakes) in the UK and Germany.
The Irish organized calendar, now in its second year, continues to give a quarter of its profits to Bothar. This Irish charity has been sending livestock to the developing world since 1991.
Buy it here for €10 plus shipping.

The Irish Central reader response raises a valid point: Nobody's naked in this calendar. The word "naked" (and its near-synonym "nude") have been badly corrupted and devalued in common discourse. The article repeatedly mentions "naked Irish farmers" when they are nothing of the kind: They are shirtless only, and seeing as they're all men that shouldn't be a big deal. (The calendar itself doesn't use either word.)

I called this blog "Naked Charity" as a shorthand, but relatively few of these calendars actually feature unambiguously naked people. Am I contributing to the decay?

University of Portsmouth

Nude charity calender faces the axe after unedited pictures were posted online | Mail Online
Pictures of students from the University of Portsmouth's calendar have ended up on porn websites.
Photographs have also been posted on forums where they have been viewed and commented on thousands of times.
The pictures which went into the calendar were edited to preserve the girls' modesty, but the ones uploaded online were unedited.
I'm a little concerned that the Daily Mail doesn't know how to spell "calendar", but that's a minor issue here.

So, how did "unedited" pictures get out in the first place? The internet doesn't creep into your computer and suck things out of it.
Makers of the calendar believe a university student may be responsible for uploading the photos.
Gee, ya think? That's some mighty fine police work there, Lou.

The calendars have raised quite a bit of money over the years. I'm sorry to see the girls, the school, and the charity suffer for their good intentions.

Shirts Off Their Backs

Volunteers Strip For Homeless Pets - KSATTwelve volunteers of the Bulverde Humane Society have taken a daring move and are literally giving the shirts off their backs to raise money for homeless animals.
The women have posed topless in a 2010 calendar that is described as not only the first of its kind in Bulverde, but possibility in the whole state of Texas.
The KSAT link features video of the story, and includes some images from the calendar itself. I don't see anything about it on the Bulverde Humane Society page, but then it was last year. See also My San Antonio, WMTW, YouTube.

Salisbury City Belles

Salisbury City FC Supporters Club - City Belles Charity CalenderThe 'City Belles' calendar has come about following my [Suzie Iles] breast cancer diagnosis in February 2011. Beth Doyle and I were having a cup of tea and joking that we should do a WI style calendar but as Whites fans, it should have a football theme. Stuart Cannell offered to do the design work and the mad idea slowly became a reality...! Four other brave ladies agreed to reveal all for the cause and the City Belles were born! I was very lucky, and thanks to the staff at the Pembroke Suite, the Breast Care Sisters, the surgeons at SDH and the radiotherapy team at Southampton General, I am now through my treatment and on the road to full recovery. The calendar is my way of putting something back whilst also raising money for the Whites and the Stars Appeal Pembroke Unit Fund.
Order at the above link. See also the Salisbury Journal.

Harlow Walking Group

Ramble group ladies take a walk on the wild side for charity | Harlow StarCHEEKY Harlow ramblers found themselves really out in the open when they agreed to strip off for a naked charity calendar.
Despite starting initially as a joke, the 14 women from the Harlow Walking Group were all eventually persuaded to undress for the tasteful Calendar Girls style calendar to help raise money for the Harlow Fields School.
"It was my idea," explained 73-year-old Sheila Cleary of Hawkenbury. "We were walking one Friday talking about fundraising events we could do and I said we should do a calendar like those calendar girls.
"Despite laughing at first, everyone was surprisingly enthusiastic about the idea and eventually we decided well why not – much to our children’s and grandchildren’s disgust!"
There doesn't appear to be any way to order one other than calling them. The number is in the Harlow Star.

Cats Protection

Naked calendar to benefit Caterham cats charity | This is Surrey
Next month, Caterham, Redhill and East Surrey Cats Protection launch their risqué 2012 calendar in the hope of raising hundreds of pounds for the area's mistreated moggies.

First in was telecoms engineer Jean Bailey, 44, of Huddlestone Crescent, Merstham.

The volunteer Cats Protection welfare coordinator said she had some last-minute nerves and added: "I arrived thinking, 'I'm not going to get my pants off for anybody – the pants are staying on,' and I did decide I wanted to do a back shot. I wasn't sure about full nudity.

"But when I was there I thought 'what the hell'."
That seems to be a common attitude among reluctant calendar models. And they usually end up having fun.

Naked Jennifer Ellison breaks wrist in bizarre piano accident

Naked Jennifer Ellison breaks wrist in bizarre piano accident - mirror.co.uk

I don't know what's so bizarre about a falling piano. It happened 30 minutes before curtain for Wednesday's performance of the touring production of "Calendar Girls," which if you're reading this blog you should darn well know what it's about. Now Ms Ellison knows that "catch that piano" works about as well as you would think it would.
But she was back on stage the next night, wearing a bright pink cast. And, presumably, not much else.

In Bed with the Nightshift

The Nightshift Blog Week 60: Laura Keenan
Well the last two weeks have been very glamorous and exciting, as you’ve no doubt heard we had the photoshoot for The Nightshift contribution to the STV Appeal 2011...aaah yes the charity calendar aptly titled “In Bed with the Nightshift.”
I’m not gonna lie, I hate getting my picture taken, when they said they wanted me in nightwear I was less than keen, but then they told me what the appeal was all about and I gladly let them remove the metaphorical gun from my head! Now, I know it seems incongruous that I was willing to be dressed up like a lady of loose morals to raise money for children BUT weird as it may sound, in an effort to give Nightshifters a smile and a giggle while they raised money for a fabulous cause – that is indeed what I did! Great fun it was too!
Wait til you see the calendar! In fact, they go on sale today!!! Go straight to The Nightshift website www.stv.tv/thenightshift and if you look at the middle of the page on the left hand side you’ll see The Nightshift logo and the link to buy the 2012 calendar! They are selling like hotcakes already which is fabulous as all the money raised in Scotland stays in Scotland! :D
Wait a minute, she's a television presenter and she hates to have her picture taken? Funny line of work to get into.

I'll acknowledge in advance (before both of my readers write me to say it) that this project doesn't fit the stated mission of this site: Nobody gets naked. In fact, that's sort-of the point. But since I'm at DragonCon at the moment, I thought I'd go off on a tangent. You won't find cosplay done any better than this. Dare to Bare Because We Care

Telegraph | Namibian Women "Dare to Bare Because We Care" for Animal Welfare
Desperate to raise funds for the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), 12 mostly middle-aged Namibian pet lovers bared it all with furry models from an animal shelter -- though most of these animals were since lucky enough to be adopted.
What started as a joke, with an ambitious print run of 2,000 copies at 300 Namibian dollars each (40 US dollars, 28 euros), became a money-maker in the Christmas shopping fever.
And another [Dare to] Bare Because We Care. As of mid-2010 they still had some left and had dropped the price to 100 dollars Namibian. I'm sure they're all gone by now, so I'm hoping for a happy ending. See also Facebook and the Windhoek SPCA.

Whitby Bin Men

Whitby Gazette | Naked binmen raise £2,000 for good cause
The 12 workers from Scarborough Borough Council’s waste and recycling departments stripped off last year with just pieces of recyling equipment hiding their modesty.
...The cheque for £2033.60 was handed over to the two charities that will benefit from the money – Yorkshire Air Ambulance and Help for Heroes.
I'm not finding any hint that the calendars were ever available via mail or web order, only from local merchants. But read more at Forces Pen Pals, Scarborough Council and Real Whitby Magazine. Or just search for "Whitby Ben Men calendar". And congratulations to all involved!

Calendar Girls: the Stage Play in New Zealand

Calendar Girls: Being naked on stage, but very tasteful | The National Business Review
It is a delightful and entertaining piece of theatre. It has heart, lots of genuine emotion and true sentimentality. The success of the show is due largely to the enthusiastic performances of the six female leads.
...The play manages to provide something between voyeurism and titillation, never giving offence, presenting the naked women in the best of all possible taste. This is a show for the prudish as well as the broadminded – maybe not too prudish, though.
Well, it is about women getting naked, after all. It's not like you didn't know what you were getting when you bought the ticket.

See another review in Auckland Now and the advance stories in the Star-Times and Auckland Now. And if you're in New Zealand, why not go?
